Anne of Green Gables was an excellent book series and led to two excellent movies. Sarita, however, preferred the movies more than the books and discusses why. Anne of Green Gables is an upcoming feature film version of Anne of Green Gables – The Musical. 'Anne of Green Gables' is once again a hot television property: After Netflix announced, another new adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic novel is now coming to PBS. The TV movie 'Anne of Green Gables' stars Ella Ballentine as the titular orphan, and Martin Sheen as Matthew Cuthbert, the man who takes in Anne along with his sister, Marilla (played by Sara Botsford). The flick was originally produced for Canadian television, and aired in the country back in February., this adaptation of 'Anne' sets itself apart from the iconic 1980s miniseries as 'a more modern take on the story, with darker, edgier moments that take it out of the past and into the present.' It was produced in part by Montgomery's granddaughter, Kate MacDonald Butler.

This version is unrelated to the upcoming Netflix and CBC co-production, an eight-episode series to be written by Emmy winner Moira Walley-Beckett ('Breaking Bad') and directed by Niki Caro ('Whale Rider'). Though she has great difficulty controlling her temper, impulsiveness and vivid imagination, Anne eventually wins over her new guardians, domineering Marilla Cuthbert (Colleen Dewhurst) and Marilla's shy brother Matthew (Richard Farnsworth). Anne's secondary adventures concern her 'bosom friend' Diana (Schuyler Grant) and her supposed enemy Gilbert Blythe (Jonathan Crombie). Anne of Green Gables was offered on American television as a 3-part presentation on PBS' Wonderworks; it aired from February 17 through March 3, 1986.
